Reinhard-Karl Üblacker

Food expert Reinhard-Karl Üblacker is an expert in nutrition in the workplace. As a nutrition expert and author of many books, he demonstrates how we can eat healthy and energy-boosting food in the workplace, and encourages us to switch to healthier nutrition strategies.

 

After his apprenticeship as a chef, Reinhard-Karl Üblacker spent three years as a restaurant manager at the Arabella Sheraton in Munich. He then completed a management training course in restaurant chain management at a fast-food chain, when the idea struck him that it should also be possible to eat healthily at work. Motivated by his plan for establishing healthy nutrition habits in the workplace, he gained numerous qualifications in nutrition at renowned institutions. Finally, after more than 20 years experience in the food sector and several years spent teaching at the Vitalakademie in Vienna, Graz, Salzburg, Linz and Villachm, he became an expert independent food expert. His motto: keep it short and simple!

 

 

Reinhard-Karl Üblacker answers some of your questions: 

 

What are the essential ingredients for a healthy eating plan in the workplace?
  „Buttermilk, cottage cheese, avocado, cress, crispbread, eggs, oat flakes and, of course, large quantities of water.“ 
Why is water so important?
  „The body consists of 50 - 60 % of water, and this percentage is even higher for children, at over 70 %. Water thins the blood and improves circulation, allowing oxygen and nutrients to be carried around the body more effectively to supply the body with energy. This of course benefits the brain, making thought processes much sharper and more fluent. Water also helps to maintain the mucous membranes of the eyes, nose and mouth, which is especially important in the hot, dry atmosphere of an office.“
What is the ideal volume of water to drink?
  „An adult should drink about 1.5 litres of water a day. It is even more important to drink as we grow older, as our body’s natural water reserves diminish and the kidneys don’t function as efficiently. What drinks do you recommend?
  „Water is the perfect drink. Ideally not sparkling water, because carbon dioxide pollutes the body. About two thirds of the drinking water that comes out of our tap is groundwater; the remainder is surface water. That’s perfect! But if your water is too hard or contains high levels of calcium, you need to rely on special water filters like those supplied by BWT.“
