Frequent questions

Installation

Can the BWT Quick & Clean limescale protection filter system be connected to any fitting?
The BWT Quick & Clean limescale protection filter system can be connected to all concealed and exposed fittings if they have a (standardised) ½" thread connection for the shower hose (this is the case with over 95% of all fittings) and there is sufficient space for changing the filter cartridge.
How much space is required for installing a BWT Quick & Clean limescale protection filter system?
Please make sure that there is about 25 cm of space below the filter housing - which must be installed vertically - for changing the filter cartridge. The total amount of space as well as the distance from the wall is shown in the instruction manual
Can the BWT Quick & Clean limescale protection filter system also be connected to a fitting that does not have a standardised ½" thread for the shower hose?
A few fitting brands do not have a standard thread which can be seen, for example, from the fact that you can only use the shower hoses from the particular brand. If this is the case for your fitting, you can remedy the situation by using commercial-grade adapters and seals. We have prepared a list for you which should help you in this situation (see: Übersicht Anschlüsse). If you let us know the model and brand of your fitting, we will be pleased to be of assistance (E-Mail to: info@quick-n-clean.com).
Does BWT recommend any shower fittings?

The BWT Quick & Clean limescale protection filter system is suitable for nearly all shower systems. Optimum performance is obtained, for example, when used with the following GROHE and HANSA fittings and shower systems. BWT recommends combining the BWT Quick & Clean limescale protection filter system with the following models from GROHE and HANSA:

I do not have enough space for vertical installation, can the BWT Quick & Clean limescale protection filter system also be fitted horizontally?
Yes, the installed position does not affect the way the system works. However, we recommend installing the BWT Quick & Clean limescale protection filter system vertically wherever possible.
Can I install the BWT Quick & Clean limescale protection filter system myself?
The BWT Quick & Clean limescale protection filter system is extremely easy to fit and you will have no problems installing it yourself. You merely need the right (adjustable) spanner. You will find the exact installation procedure in Section 6. of the instruction manual.

Use

How exactly does the BWT Quick & Clean limescale protection filter system work?
The BWT Quick & Clean limescale protection filter system is connected to the shower or bath mixer. While showering in the normal way, water flows past the the filter cartridge inside the filter housing. After showering, the rinsing process is activated by pressing the button. After pressing the button, water flows through the filter cartridge and is decalicified by ion exchanger.
Can I use the filtered water to remove existing limescale and soap residue?
No. Before using the BWT Quick & Clean limescale protection filter system for the first time, please clean your shower or bath tub thoroughly to remove limescale and soap residue. From now on, rinsing with the filtered (= softened) water effectively prevents limescale deposits on glass, tiles and fittings. The shower must still be cleaned at regular intervals of approx. 7 weeks.
Can I use the BWT Quick & Clean limescale protection filter system to clean dirty water?
No. The BWT Quick & Clean limescale protection filter system is only intended for connecting to a fitting in a shower or bath tub and is NOT suitable for producing drinking water, i.e. for cleaning dirty water.
Can I drink water filtered with the BWT Quick & Clean limescale protection filter system?
The filtered water is safe to drink. However, you should not drink it in large quantities. The filter system is only for decarbonising (reducing the lime content) tap water and only designed for the intended purpose described here. To make coffee and tea, we recommend our BWT gourmet table water filter with patented BWT Mg²+ technology. It not only filters tap water to remove lime as well as taste-impairing and unwanted substances, such as chlorine, lead and copper, but also enriches it with physiologically valuable magnesium. This gives you naturally fresh tasting drinking water as well as coffee and tea with full aroma.
Can I use the filtered water to water my plants?
Water filtered with the BWT Quick & Clean limescale protection filter system is safe to use for watering your plants. But for this purpose, we also recommend water mineralised with magnesium from our BWT gourmet table water filters.
How often does the filter cartridge need changing?
The filter cartridge lasts up to 3 months, depending on water hardness and water consumption. The initial installation set comes with a water hardness test strip that lets you determine the anticipated period of use. For standard-size showers, we would expect a rinsing cycle of 10 seconds. If the shower is used several times in succession every day, we only recommend activating the BWT Quick & Clean limescale protection filter system after the last person has showered so as to make the filter cartridge last as long as possible.
How do I notice when the filter cartridge is spent and needs to be replaced?
The filter cartridge must be replaced as soon as limescale starts to become visible on rinsed surfaces once they have dried.
Where can I purchase replacement filter cartridges?
Replacement filter cartridges are usually available from where you purchased the BWT Quick & Clean limescale protection filter system. On the Internet you can purchase replacement filter cartridges from the BWT online shop as well as from various online retailers. Please contact us by e-mail  info@quick-n-clean.com
Is the filter cartridge difficult to change?
No. No tools are needed to change the filter cartridge. After unscrewing the housing base (by hand), you can remove the spent filter cartridge and fit the replacement filter cartridge. You will find exact instructions by referring to Section 8.2 in instruction manual.
I would like to keep a small supply of replacement filter cartridges. How long can the filter cartridges be stored for and how do you recommend storing them?
The replacement filter cartridges must always be kept in the original packaging (tubular film bag) and stored in a dry place. Under these conditions, they can be stored for approx. 3 years from the date of manufacture. The exact use-by date is shown on the tubular film bag, e.g. EXP: 12/2016
Must the filter cartridge be disposed of as hazardous waste?
No. Spent filter cartridges are safe to dispose of as household waste.
When I activate the filter function by pressing the button, milky white water comes out of the shower head. What does this mean?
There is no need to worry, this is completely safe! Produced by the filtration process, this is carbonic acid appearing in the form of small bubbles or clouding, and stops once the system has been in operation for a short time
Is showering harmful to the skin when the BWT Quick & Clean limescale protection filter system is activated?
No, on the contrary, many consumers even use the water for washing their hair! Like skin, the filtered water has a slightly acidic pH value so it does not harm the skin's protective acid mantle. Depending on water hardness, the pH value varies between pH 5.0 and pH 6.0 when filter cartridge is activated for the first time, then increases with use, and reaches the pH value of the main water supply when the filter cartridge is spent. However, it must be remembered that the filter cartridge' capacity is depleted much faster when used for showering and washing hair.
