Hardness degree in drinking water

How does a conventional table-top water filter change the overall hardness of water?

For determination of the total hardness always the sum of calcium and magnesium ions is measured; both together form the total hardness of water. At conventional table water filters calcium and magnesium are removed from the water and replaced by H+ and potassium or sodium ions; as a result the total hardness decreases. We then talk about ‘soft’ water (provable e.g. with a test strip). The disadvantage: Not only lime is removed from the water, but also the physiologically valuable mineral magnesium.

BWT goes a different way!

With the Mg2+ technology, the biggest part of the lime producing calcium ions contained in water is replaced in the filter process by magnesium ions. In contrast to conventional table water filters, the lime content is reduced AND the concentration of magnesium ions in the water is increased. Due to the exchange process of calcium for magnesium ions, the overall hardness level only decreases only slightly.

The result:

Thanks to the patented Mg2+ technology by BWT, i.e. by adding physiologically valuable magnesium ions to the filtered water, you obtain physiologically valuable drinking water AND effective limescale protection, while the overall hardness level of the water only changes insignificantly.
